Press Release
For immediate release

Montreal, January 16th, 2015 - The Foundation of Greater Montreal (FGM) is celebrating its 15th anniversary. "The Foundation has shown, in a short time, that it's an important vehicle for the well-being of our community," said FGM President and CEO Yvan Gauthier. "Since its creation, our Foundation has distributed more than $16 million in grants to over 1,000 charitable organizations in Greater Montreal working in every sector of the community. Today the FGM manages assets of over $175 million." The Foundation's friends and partners recognized the FGM's pioneers, including John Gallop, Michel Lamontagne, Manon Vennat, Marcel Côté, and Pierre Brunet, as well as committed organizations such as Centraide, the YMCAs of Québec, the Lucie and André Chagnon Foundation, the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation, and thanked everyone who has contributed to the FGM's development.

A promising future

The current directors are proud to celebrate a foundation that takes action in the present and builds for the future. Gifts to the Foundation create a legacy that will be passed from generation to generation, for the benefit of the community. "The FGM has grown an impressive amount over the last several years, and the results are remarkable. I encourage businesses and sponsors to take advantage of the FGM to support the cause of their choice, whether by creating their own fund or by contributing to an existing one. You'll be contributing to the well-being of the Greater Montreal community for many years to come!" said Richard Pound, chairman of the FGM's board of directors and partner at Stikeman Elliott law firm.

"The Foundation has forged important connections over the years with community organizations, making it a well-known reference for knowledge of Greater Montreal issues. In addition, it can now count on a solid financial base and infrastructure to ensure its financial longevity," added Monique Jérôme-Forget, FGM board member and special advisor at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt law firm.

The FGM's directors want to actively pursue the Foundation's development and its impact on Greater Montreal. New partnerships will be established to increase funding, and the organization will expand to the North and South Shores.

"We strongly believe in uniting various organizations with expertise in social issues in the greater metropolitan area. These fruitful partnerships allow us to find practical solutions that will ensure the well-being of the Greater Montreal community. And I truly believe in the partnerships the FGM has built to increase its impact," said Kim Thomassin, FGM board member, managing partner at McCarthy Tétrault law firm, and chair of the board of directors for the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.
