2012 Quebec Survey of Child Development in Kindergarten: publication of initial results

This publication presents the main results of the 2012 Quebec Survey of Child Development in Kindergarten - QSCDK (Enquête québécoise sur le développement des enfants à la maternelle 2012 - EQDEM) for the entire province of Quebec and each of its regions. The survey looked at specific characteristics of children in kindergarten and the proportion of children who were vulnerable in one or more of five domains of development: physical health and well-being, social competence, emotional maturity, language and cognitive developments, and communication skills/general knowledge. Close to 4,000 teachers in almost 1,600 primary schools (francophone and anglophone, public and private) in each of Quebec's 17 administrative regions completed a total of 65,000 surveys-one for each child in their class-between February and May 2012. The large scale of the survey allowed researchers to paint an accurate picture of children enrolled in kindergarten for five-year-olds in 2011-2012.
