New Naître et grandir campaign - Everyone is important in the life of a child!

Montreal, November 25, 2016 - The healthy development of very young children concerns not only their parents, but all the other people in their lives as well. Grandparents, uncles, aunts, family friends, neighbours… we all have a significant role to play in the lives of the children around us. As the very first edition of the Early Childhood Week (Grande semaine des tout-petits) wraps up, that's the message that the ninth Naître et Grandir campaign wants us to remember.

"When children spend time with adults other than their parents, they are stimulated in different ways and learn new things," explains Julie Brousseau, PhD, a psychologist at the CHU Sainte-Justine Marie Enfant Rehabilitation Centre who acts as a consultant for Naître et grandir. "It doesn't matter if we're singing, dancing or playing with a child, even the simplest activities make a big difference in that child's development. The more people there are in a child's life, the better their chances for healthy development."

The well-known saying that it takes a village to raise a child is still true today. The active support of extended family and friends and, more generally, the encouragement and cooperation of society as a whole are an essential part of our children's development. We are all important in the life of a child!

Creating a chain of paper dolls to pay tribute to the people that marked our childhood

In connection with its new campaign, Naître et grandir has also developed an interactive web platform in both French and English (graceatoi.com and youmadethedifference.com), asking Quebecers to identify and thank the people who played an important role in their childhood. It just takes a few seconds to express thanks and add more paper dolls to the gratitude chain. Many contributions have already been posted, several from such well-known personalities as Jonathan Roberge, Bianca Longpré, Maxime Landry, Ève-Marie Lortie, Stéphane Fortin and Kim Rusk.

Different aspects of Naître et grandir's latest social campaign:

  • Television spots running on various French and English channels until the end of January 2017;
  • Discussions focusing on the positive contribution of extended family and friends to a child's development on several French talk shows, including Marina, Entrée principale, Deux filles le matin, Salut Bonjour and Banc Public;
  • A 10-page special report on the Naître et grandir website and in the November issue of the Naître et grandir magazine (available free of charge in over 4,000 locations frequented by young families).

About the Early Childhood Week (Grande semaine des tout-petits)
Running from November 20 to 26, 2016, the Early Childhood Week provides an opportunity for communicating and inciting dialogue on early childhood development, highlighting local and regional initiatives that support very young children and their families, and mobilizing Quebec society as a whole-from community groups and the business community to elected government representatives.
