Special Report on Fathers: What Role Do They Play at Present?

In time for Father's Day and the Semaine Québécoise de la Paternité (Quebec Fatherhood Week), the Naître et grandir magazine presents a special report on fathers in its June issue.

By means of a survey conducted exclusively for Naître et grandir, the magazine wanted to know more about the place fathers occupy in their children's lives and, in turn, the role that children play toward their fathers.

What do fathers think about their role? The survey's results clearly show that fathers are more than ever involved in their children's lives. They consider themselves more present, more active, and more involved than their predecessors. Three facts taken from the survey demonstrate this progression:

  • 99 percent of the respondents agree that fathers play an essential role in the development of a child.
  • 72 percent of the respondents state that they are more involved than their own fathers were.
  • 62 percent of the respondents do not consider themselves to be the same type of father that their own fathers were.

The complete results of the survey are available (in French) on the Naître et grandir website (www.naitreetgrandir.com/mag/sondage-papa). It is also possible to use, for dissemination purposes, the graphics produced to illustrate the survey's data.
