Reading to the very young: a gift for life! Only 50% of parents read to their children under two on a regular basis
Results made public by the Institut de la statistique du Québec establish a connection between reading to children two and under and better academic results measured in Grade 6. The data were compiled from a sample of children being followed though the Québec Longitudinal Study of Child Development (QLSCD). For the Lucie and André Chagnon Foundation, these results confirm the importance of reading to children, even as early as during the first months of life. It is for that reason that the Foundation decided to launch, as of last month, an extensive public awareness campaign encouraging young parents to spend more time reading to their children.
